Installing Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty) server edition is straight forward. I didn't do extra steps than:

1. Downloading the .iso file and burn it to CD.
2. Boot the machine with Ubuntu CD.
3. Partition the HDD and go through the installation screens (find screenshot in the below reference).

Partitioning however is little tricky to give every filesystem the suitable space. I'll give my small tips here later.

I think the first task before installing anything and even before deciding which distro to use and what services should be installed on this server, the first thing is to determine the server roles.

The main goals from this server are:

1. To host a local Document Management System for NGO office.
2. To host a local Information and Knowledge Base Management System for the NGO office.
3. To keep all the important information/files on centralized box.

I've been asked to setup a server with Document Management System (DMS) and Contact Management System (CMS) at the time being. This server could be expanded to be a Email Server and Printing Server as well.

Decision is mine for using whatever software. As I prefer the LAMP model for legibility issues, reliabilty and cutting costs. Here's the list of software to be used to configure this server:

1. Operating System: Ubuntu 7.04 Server Edition
2. Database: MySQL 5.0.38
3. PHP5
4. Web Server: Apache2
5. DMS: Alfresco
6. CMS: SugarCRM or Liferay

From long time, people working behind non-free encyclopidias, like Britannica, are fighting out behind Wikipedia claiming that it doesn't provide accurate information.

Wikipedia Founder, Jimmy Wales, decides to make an opening montage for the documentary film Truth in Numbers: The Wikipedia Story, an intimate study of the rise of Internet technology and one man’s (and one hundred million volunteers’) quest to provide free knowledge to the entire world. May be to prove to the world that Wikipedia is important and realiable as a reference for information for research.

It seems that John and Brishen (people working on the documentary film) decide to visit Egypt and make some interviews with Wikipedia contributors in Cairo and Alexandria. It's out of the schedule plan and no arrangement for anything.

Mido know about it from English Wikipedia by chance and he send an email to Arabic Wikipedia Mailing List on Apr 21, 2007 to ask for volunteers that's interested in such meeting in Cairo.

Mohamed Mostafa, Alnokta (Mohamed Magdy), Ahmed Hashim and me managed to join the meeting at 8:00 PM downtown in Cairo.

We had difficulty getting in time because of traffic jam in Cairo streets and had another difficulty, also, finding a place that could allow us to have video recording but at last we managed to find a good place and we start the interview managed by John and Brishen.

We enjoy the time chatting about Wikipedia effeciency, benefits, motivations to contribute and difficulties in Arabic Wikipedia.

Their next step to meet Wikipedia guys in Alexandria.

Well, I like databases and thought why don't make a small relational database based on flat files and do joining them using Linux/Unix shell. I tried to invent this small example:

1. Have 2 flat text files, one for Employees (emp.tbl) and the other for Departments (dept.tbl), like the following:

Why google is developing everything (GTalk, Google Desktop, ...) for Microsoft Windows only and not for Linux too, knowing that Linux is being very popular now?!!!
