The Long Forgotten Joy of Traveling By Rail
It wasn’t too long ago when traveling involved either taking a train, bus or packing up the car with your belongings for a long trek. Air travel is definitely the fastest way to travel, but when you want to see the country first hand during your trip, there’s nothing that beats rail service.
Traveling by train is a carefree and relaxing way to see the country as it really is. You are probably so used to seeing the city that it may be quite an experience to see land that is still raw and untouched. When you travel by rail you’ll see the backcountry as it really is and it’s quite something to behold.
Air travel has reduced traveling to a simple level where the idea is to get from point A to point B in the fastest time possible. It has taken all the joy and excitement of the actual journey to reach the destination out of the picture.
Of course, life is busy these days and travel time has become a bother and a nuisance that stands in the way of getting to the end destination. That does not mean, however, that you have to agree to it. You can schedule one of your holidays where you can enjoy the journey as much as the time spent at your destination.
In the past a family would pore over one of the family world globes and dream of traveling to far destinations. These globes allowed children to imagine their next trip and parents smiled as they were doing so. In these travel dreams the child would imagine himself on a train with the rest of his family taking in the sights on the way to an exciting place. Nowadays, the journey has not been a part of the trip equation at all.
Trains are an inexpensive way of traveling across the United States and are a much neglected travel service. They have become a thing of the past, which is really quite sad. Trains have a beauty and power about them that cannot be matched, even by an expensive airliner. Railroads stretch across this country and unite every individual in it through a long history of rail travel.
If you have considered traveling by rail for a holiday, take a look at one of your family globes again to get inspired. Maybe it’s time to take a holiday that’s relaxed and comfortable to see different parts of the country in a new light.
