Earning A Pilot Salary
So you have been flying in general aviation for some time and have accumulated sufficient flying hours to qualify for an airline interview, what can you expect an Airline Pilot Salary to be? No doubt that wges will not be the same in differnet jobs even if the aircraft is the same. Salaries will differ for a variety of reasons such as who you are working for, which country you are working in, your seniority within the comapny and of course whether you are a Captain or a co pilot.
Pilots will usually obtain a regional job prior to a major airline. Also known as commuter airlines these positions entail flying 50 to 100 seat turbo prop or jet aircraft. Generally know to fly the pilots quite hard with some flying up to a thousand hours per year on domestic operations. Co Pilots can expect to make a Pilot Salary of between twenty to forty thousand dollars per year and Captains will earn anywhere between 35 thousand and up to a low six figure salary.
The next level from a Regional airline is on to that of a Major Airline. This can entail both cargo and passenger flying. Pilot jobs with UPS and Fed ex are highly sought after as they offer equivalent and sometimes better conditions than the major carriers. Pilots can fly international and domestically generally on larger jet aircraft. A low seniority Co Pilot will earn between thirty to sixty thousand dollars whereas a senior Co Pilot can earn a low six figure salary. Captains can earn an Airline Pilot Salary of between 120k up to the mid two hundred thousand.
As I have previously stated the wage of a general aviation pilot is minimal and it may not seem worth it to put so much time, effort and money to obtain a pilot license. How ever you can see from this article that if you stick with it it well worth all of it.
